Lonesome Valley Editorial: as seen on Wedding Sparrow

The wild, hidden nature of this setting is reminiscent of the magnificence of national parks like Yosemite Valley. The mountains of western North Carolina evoke a spirited elegance, and inspires this ethereal editorial shoot at Lonesome Valley. Peach and blush hues of the decor manifested the sunset tones which softly reflected on the surrounding canyon faces. The encompassing deep greenery of the forest captured the natural beauty of the region and inspired the earthy details of the tablescape design.

Bohemian pampas grass befit the ceremony space with organically untamed beauty. The bride’s natural look is inspired by the landscape, replete with glowing skin and hair in loose waves. Her gown holds a reined in feel, with lace motif and full sleeves; the back providing a dramatic surprise with architectural lines and open back. The flourishing bouquet of blooms featured local dahlias, oak leaf hydrangea, and colorful, unexpected pokeweed to deliver a romantic complexity.

A delicate linen runner was gently layered atop the patterned linen, adding depth. The tabletop was adorned with textural blooms and seasonal fruits. The loose napkin fold & place setting embodied the shoot’s vision: beautifully effortless sophistication. Whitewashed x-back chairs brought a fresh feel for the ceremony space, as well as the intimate reception.

The petite wedding cake, set atop a simple glass pedestal, transcends from loosely painted floral details to lifelike, hand-crafted sugarpaste roses, leaves and delicately weaving stems. Though clearly a work of art, the confection straddles the line of effortless romance and dedicated detail that is woven throughout the entire shoot.

Styled Inspiration: Rockwood Lodge

Nestled deep in the Appalachian Mountains is Rockwood Lodge. Set with a backdrop of mysterious fog, this venue had an air of intrigue. Sitting atop one of the highest peaks in Highlands, North Carolina, the lodge was fully immersed in the clouds for this moody, misty shoot. Normally sporting 360 degree views of the mountainscape, the venue had surprising weather that wasn’t part of the original plan. However, the fog perfectly completed the vibe of relaxed opulence we looked to achieve—and set this experience apart from anything else. The unexpected approach to the tablescape design and bespoke stationery pieces were the finishing touches needed to make this shoot standout.

Both Brandon and Katelynn were dressed to befit the occasion. The elegant Willowby by Watters Saros gown featured billowing sleeves and layers of soft cream and blush tulle. Embroidered and embellished floral details came with the occasional bird silhouette––one of the smallest, yet sweetest details. Meanwhile, the groom’s tone on tone black lapel popped with his autumnal boutonniere to compliment the bride’s hand-tied bouquet.

Captured at the height of the foggy day, the intimate ceremony on the lawn emanated a magical feel. Fully enveloped within the moody mist, we embraced the wild feel the weather brought. Set amidst a low crescent of florals, the outdoor ceremony felt private and utterly reverent.

Table design defines so much for an event. Firstly, we anchored the look with an oversized crystal chandelier set casually on one end of the table. This arresting visual was a clear nod to the relaxed, opulence of the shoot. Next came blue velvet linens, sheer runners, and dijon napkins adorning the table. Keeping with the color palette were intricate grey-blue water goblets accenting each individual place setting. Colorful florals grew from the base of the table up and wove organically through the ornate chandelier. Black candle stands completed the tablescape and brought a slight modern look to this romantic shoot. This contemporary touch was softened by peach-toned taper candles. Old Edwards Events provided the culinary offerings: delectable charcuterie boards with cascading seasonal fruits, and show-stopping salads.

In addition, the intricate watercolor detailing within the stationery suite blended seamlessly with the venue’s mountaintop location. Personalized place cards and dinner menus on hand-torn paper further elevated the tablescape specifically.

Styled Inspiration: the Duke Mansion

For this editorial, our team aimed to create for something bold and different. We loved the striking black and white floors of the venue, and looked to accent them with minimal colors. With the lush surrounding gardens of the property, we felt that “British racing green” was the perfect addition. Adding in florals with soft peach tones to complement the green made for a pleasing yet unexpected combination. We aspired to create a season-less editorial that showcased the beauty and style flexibility of the property’s spaces.

Styling this day was such a treat! After designing the initial tablescape plan, we worked with the photographer for the selected items for personal details. We shared an overall concept to the stationer, and she absolutely nailed the look for the fabulous suite. It was sophisticated with just the right amount of panache: gold brooch, silk tassels, metallic marbling, and velvet enclosure included.  Pulling in contemporary details to contrast with the traditional, historic mansion created a really fresh, exciting vibe.

We hope that engaged couples see that they don’t have to be afraid of a bold color, or of blending modern with long-standing styles. Your day can still feel traditional and formal, even if you don’t have a white-on-white aesthetic or decorate with only traditional furnishings, florals, and place settings. Most importantly, make a statement by ensuring it looks and feels like you.

Styled Inspiration: Avenue Shoot

This endeavor was a perfect opportunity to flex a fresh, modern wedding aesthetic. Highlighting local vendors, this editorial shoot features dark, abstract linens with a pop of spring color. The soft, organic florals create a light and natural feel which produces a welcoming and gracious atmosphere for the guests to enjoy.

We first desired to concept a yet-explored contemporary vibe for the space. One that would inspire people to think outside of the box concerning layout and color when creating events at Avenue. Next, with so many couples of varying ethnicities, we understand the importance of conveying the diversity of today’s relationships. We then found our stunning models, who stole the show!

Playing off of the minimalistic, industrial details in Avenue, this editorial brought in the bright and the unexpected. Keeping to a monochromatic palette along with a bold pop of yellow, we aimed to design a feel yet to be showcased in the venue, which is the perfect blank canvas. Featured on Ruffled, we were able to showcase Carolina talents in a new way!
